Imminent military confrontation for the control of La Guera, between Mauritania and Morocco.

This morning at 8:30 a.m., a contingent of about 300 soldiers from the Moroccan occupation forces launched a military offensive in the Guerguerat area (called “Kandahar” by the Moroccans), in the southern fringe of Western Sahara (from 5 to 6 kms wide) north of the La Güera peninsula and bordering Mauritania.

This area is liberated Sahrawi territory, the first and seventh military region of the Sahrawi liberation army, although Morocco considers it a “buffer zone” and is under the control of the MINURSO.

This great offensive by the Moroccan military occupation forces represents the largest violation of the fire carried out by the
annexationist regime of Mohamed VI in Western Sahara, violating the military agreements signed with the Polisario Front in 1991.

According to very recent Sahrawi information, at this time the Moroccan military forces have complete control of the entire
region near La Güera. Also on the Mauritanian side there is a movement of the military.

On the other hand, during the last week, the Moroccan military command ordered the concentration of considerable contingents of troops
throughout the Auserd area, and a Moroccan plane has been flying over this region all day for 3 days. At the airport of the occupied city of El Aaiún, capital of Western Sahara, there has been an intense movement of several military aircraft, helicopters and fighter jets.

Simultaneously, the occupied military zones of Amgala and Bir-Gandul have been reinforced with ground troops, tanks and
heavy artillery. The Moroccan military detachment also integrates experts in sophisticated monitoring devices, forming a line of defense.

Last January Mauritania raised its flag in La Guera, the uninhabited Saharawi city in the southern area that was left in the hands of
Mauritania in 1976, after the Moroccan-Mauritanian agreement of April 14 where the border that would separate both States was agreed .

According to Mauritanian intelligence sources, Morocco will take advantage of the current diplomatic crisis between the two countries to take control of La Guera, the southernmost town of Western Sahara on the Atlantic coast, just 5 km from the economic capital of Mauritania, Nouadhibou.
